Violeta Parra – its name reminds of vast landscapes, the Andean Cordilleras and small villages with houses of air-locks. As a restless traveler, the musician moved from house to house in the footsteps of Chile’s folk music to bring them together and preserve them, and later to share them with the whole world. Violeta Parra devoted her life to music: she taught, sang and composed until the end of her days.
In her life she moved to far-away places, where no one else was lost, always looking for the sound of her beloved Chile. And she found him. She let people participate in her music and even took her to distant Europe. There, the talented artist made not only songs from her: she tied them into sackclothes, made sculptures out of her, and put them to paper with colors. Tireless as she was, the visionary went back to Chile to sing again in her homeland and with the great dream of founding a folklore university.
Violeta could no longer realize this dream, but to this day her voice speaks of justice and the unjust suffering of the poor, the life of the peasants and the many facets of love. As a woman, singer and mother, she still lends her voice to so many. And their singing, it is the song of all.
